Donovan Mitchell did a good thing

Donovan Mitchell is an NBA all-star and a slam dunk champion.

He's a legit name in the NBA.

Donovan Mitchell also attended Greenwich Country Day School in, yes, Greenwich, CT. His mother was a pre-K teacher at GCDS and his sister also attended the school.

Donovan, aka "Spida," attended the school from third to ninth grades. Greenwich Country Day has only recently joined Greenwich High, Brunswick, Greenwich Academy and Sacred Heart Greenwich as the high schools in town.

Spida wanted to give back to his school and pledged 12 million dollars. Read the release from the school to find out more.

Amazingly -- nah, it's really not -- not everyone was thrilled. There were complaints that Donovan Mitchell should donate his money to underprivileged schools, as opposed to making an endowment to his own school that he's clearly proud of.

And, to be clear, GCDS is a private school. It's not cheap to attend it. All true.

But, call me crazy, whether it's Oprah Winfrey, LeBron James or Spida Mitchell, it's their money, right?

That doesn't mean you have to agree with it but why thrust that negativity onto the interwebs?

Oh, I know. It's what we do.

These schools have to raise money also, and GCDS is trying to enhance their facilities, especially after becoming a high school.

I mean, it's just amazing.

This one was happy to keep responding with the same tired routine. Look, that's just one example.

Don't get me wrong, Bridgeport, CT does need help, for instance. I've seen that personally. But if Spida Mitchell wants to give to Greenwich Country Day School, that's his business.

It's December. We've been through a bad year. We have a president who is an embarrassment in that he refuses to simply accept defeat gracefully.

The same behavior that was exhibited four years, and I'll be completely consistent in that.

COVID numbers look bad again.

Many of us are just trying to get through the season.

So can we just look at a good gesture by a student looking to give back?

Maybe even put on the phony "wonderful holiday season story" face.

There will be plenty of time for the toxic negativity later.

Or, maybe just stay quiet.
