The Champ and the Chump

On the day after Bill Russell died, we're learning the fate of Deshaun Watson.

One is clearly an all-time great man and athlete. A champion in every way, including for civil and human rights. A man of dignity. A force of will. A gentleman with a resourceful nature and a brilliant laugh.

He did nothing but win as a player, coach, and humanitarian.

The other is currently a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns who is accused of sexual misconduct by (at least) 25 women. In truth, how many others (answer: definitely more)?

Russell died and the world weeps.

Watson got suspended for six games and I've grabbed popcorn to watch the reaction.

Look, where there's smoke there's fire. Twenty-five women? That's a difficult thing to get past. Still, there is the old "innocent until proven guilty" just as has happened with others, including Ben Roethlisberger, who key parties in Georgia, in that case, said, in short, there wasn't enough to proceed with pressing charges.

No charges. Big Ben still got six games (later reduced) for violating the National Football League's personal conduct policy. It is arbitrary, to say the least.

We can add Kobe Bryant and even Pete Rose, whose name keeps coming up today. Charges were never pressed in Pete's case because the statute of limitations had expired. There was also never any proof on Pete (but it didn't look good).

Let's be clear: I am in no way defending Watson. Twenty-five is a large number. A terrible number. Should he get more games? Yes. Will the NFL pursue more games via appeal? Perhaps, unless they just want it to go away.

To be further clear, Watson didn't play last year. But he was paid. I'm just throwing all of the facts out for you.

What's fun is watching the virtue signaling and mansplaining, each dear soul trying to outdo the other in furthering their cause, having zero to do with the victims.

I realize so many of them tweet and retweet their little hearts out as white knight males in the hope that they're seen as heroes for women when, in fact, they're hoping their glass houses have tinted windows.

That way, you can't see how they chased nearly every female in their office, creating a rather awkward situation.

But, nah, play hero.

So, yeah, six games for Deshaun Watson.

For now.

Discuss.
