So, yeah, last night... |
It's 4:47.
In the morning.
Sean's in the shower.
Kris is on the phone.
And here I sit.
Was going to a hockey game the night before flying the smartest thing we've ever done? Well, no, but then again, why not?
We played it smart and left just before the game ended. We were back in Greenwich within 40 minutes.
Now, we each await a chance to put ourselves together and head to the airport.
Ah, travel day. Filled with stress and anxiety and whatever other gremlins can manufacture themselves.
Today isn't about 95 south through New York and Wilmington and Baltimore and the D.C. area and Richmond.
Today is about the airport and JetBlue and put your faith in the crew and people who line up in the aisle before the plane is even at the gate.
We'll roll our eyes and then that will be over.
Good times await.
But, first, get ready and breakfast.
And, seriously, Greenwich? We don't have anything other than Dunkin Donuts open before 6 a.m. around here?
Other than Starbucks, to my knowledge, the answer is "no."

5:34 p.m., north of Tampa, FL -- It never fails, but any first day of a get-away is always exhausting.
We haven't had a super-exciting day as it goes. We flew to Florida without incident and drove to our accommodations for the next few days. We settled in and even took a tour of the grounds in a golf cart.
We visited with family. We went and ate an early dinner followed by a brief stroll around a nearby outlet center.
And I slept. Because I'm exhausted.
And I hope to sleep more.
Tomorrow will get us back to where my paternal grandparents lived. We'll find other adventures to get us in (or out of) trouble.
We'll show Sean the Florida I (sort of) knew as a kid because it's all changed so much.
For now, we're safely ensconced in our temporary home.
Oh, day one isn't over yet.
But we're taking it easy.
