Nancy Adams Obituary

My parents, circa 1977. This picture was on my mother's mirror
I decided to write an obituary for my mother even if it never runs anywhere. My thanks to my sister Laura, niece Stephanie, son Sean (as if there's any other), nephew Jake, and editor Susan for contributing, either with facts, words of encouragement or reading.

This is how we summed up her life in 346 words, including COVID disclaimer.

Nancy Lee Adams, a 60-year resident of Mahopac, died at her home on Fri, Sep 4, 2020 after a long illness.

Born on Apr 24, 1937 in Paterson, NJ, to Alice and Wilbert Jennings, she lived with her parents and four siblings in Butler, NJ before relocating to Peekskill, NY where she graduated from high school in 1955.

It was in Peekskill where she met Robert Adams, marrying him on Sep 22, 1957. Their first child, Laura, was born in 1958, while Douglas (Debbie) was born in 1960, and Robert was born in 1968.

She stayed home to raise her kids until her husband died in 1989. Following his death, Nancy spent 20 years in the health and welfare office of Teamsters Local 456 in Elmsford, NY, where she was known for being the welcoming face to their members.

Nancy was known for her contagious laugh, her ribald sense of humor, her love of the beach, and most of all her love of family. Her belief was “the door was always open” and the coffee pot would always be on.

She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Oscar, Donald, and Bill. A great-grandson, Gabriel, also predeceased Nancy.

Survivors include her three children, and grandchildren Laura Coen, Stephanie Adams, Kristy Hernandez (Hector), Michael Lahiff (Ashley), Katie Lahiff, Ryan Lahiff, Conor Lahiff, Meaghan Allen (Eric), Jake Lahiff, Sean Adams and Charity Dillon (Matt).

Her sister Nina Williams also survives.

Nancy’s surviving great-grandchildren are Kendall Coen, Emma Coen, Evelyn Hernandez, Eleanor Hernandez, Isabel Hernandez, Isabella Lahiff, Gabriella Lahiff, Carson Allen, Elizabeth Dillon, and Johnny Padian.

She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews, along with their families, as well as many treasured friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association.

Calling hours are Thu, Sep 10 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, 418 US 6, Mahopac, NY. A celebration of Nancy’s life will immediately follow. Burial will be with her husband in Hillside Cemetery, 1033 Oregon Rd, Cortlandt, NY. Attendees are reminded that COVID-19 protocols will be enforced.

So sorry for your family’s loss. She was a very special person. We will always treasure our memories of her and your dad during our many baseball seasons with Rob. Fun times. May you find comfort knowing how much she was loved by anyone who knew her.
Deepest sympathy - Lou and Pat D’Aliso.
